Sekisui House, Toshiba, Honda to Test Smart Solar House

Sekisui House Ltd, Toshiba Corp and Honda Motor Co Ltd announced May 21, 2014, that they have built a house for verification purposes in Saitama City, Japan, assuming a life in 2020.

For the house, the companies employed technologies such as information technologies and personal transportation vehicles as well as an energy management technology that comprehensively controls energy supply and demand for households, vehicles and the neighborhood.

Assuming a "life that allows to live affluently for the entire lifetime and a life in 2020 that reduces CO2 emissions to zero including emissions from vehicles," the companies embodied it by building a two-family house in which people can actually live.

The house realizes mutual supply of electricity, hot water, etc, between households. For example, it enables a parent household to use electricity generated by a solar power generation system owned by a child household that is away from home during the day.

Also, the companies will (1) realize a wireless charging system for electric vehicles (EVs), (2) supply electricity from an EV to the house or its surrounding neighborhood on a trial basis and (3) make an living environment that allows to easily use personal transportation vehicles.

In regard to automobiles, the three companies will (1) make an environment that allows vehicles to enter the house, (2) test the affinity between the house and vehicles and (3) introduce a system that enables to accurately park a vehicle equipped with an autonomous driving system in a garage in which a wireless charging system is installed.

In regard to energy, they will (1) use an EMS (energy management system) to realize mutual supply of electricity and heat between households, (2) optimally manage energy supply and demand not only for the house but for the neighborhood, (3) test peak cut adjustment using demand response technology, (4) connect a V2H (vehicle to home) system to a power grid to supply electricity to the neighborhood and (5) use the storage battery of an electric vehicle not only as an emergency power source for the house but also as the neighborhood's power source that can be used for peak cut and peak shift adjustments in normal circumstances.
