Daiwa House Industry Co Ltd and Daiwa Energy Co Ltd had a ceremony to celebrate the completion of a 2.65MW mega-solar (large-scale solar) power plant in Hayato-chou, Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, March 3, 2014.
Daiwa Energy is a subsidiary of Daiwa House Industry and based in Osaka City. The plant, "Dream Solar Kirishima Hayato," was built on a site that was previously used for Daiwa House Industry's Kagoshima Plant.
The ceremony was attended by Daiwa Energy President Hidekazu Matsushima, etc. As a power producer, Daiwa Energy started selling electricity to Kyushu Electric Power Co Inc on the same day.
The Kagoshima Plant was shut down at the end of September 2009 and since then has been an idle property of Daiwa House Group. In an effort to effectively use the property, the mega-solar plant was built. The total investment is about ¥700 million (approx US$6.8 million).
Daiwa House Industry designed the plant, and Daiwa Energy, which constructed the plant, is responsible for operation and maintenance of it. The solar panel and PV inverter of the plant were manufactured by Sharp Corp and Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp (TMEIC), respectively.
The amount of electricity expected to be generated at the plant is about 2,660,000kWh per year, and the expected sales of electricity is ¥106 million per year.
Daiwa House Group is building another mega-solar plant in Kirishima City. It is located on the property of "Royal City Kirishima Myokendai," a "resort-type" condominium building with a spa, and has an output capacity of about 1.8MW.
The construction of the 1.8MW solar plant started in January 2014 and is scheduled to be completed in July 2014. As in the case of the 2.65MW solar plant, its solar panel and PV inverter are supplied by Sharp and TMEIC, respectively.
