Toshiba Realizes 22-hour Battery Life for Its Notebook PC
Toshiba Corp will release a notebook PC that has a 13.3-inch high-definition (HD) wide LCD panel, battery life of about 22 hours and weight of about 1.12kg.
The long battery life was realized by using Toshiba's own BIOS to control the hardware. The notebook PC, "dynabook KIRA V634/27K," is one of the five series (ten models) that the company will release Nov 22, 2013.
All the models in the dynabook KIRA series of notebook PCs have a battery life longer than about 14 hours because they come with "the fourth-generation Intel Core i5 Processor," which features a low power consumption, as well as a low-power-consumption LCD backlight source. In addition, devices in the PCs are meticulously controlled with Toshiba's own BIOS.
Among them, the dynabook KIRA V634/27K, whose battery runs for about 22 hours, is equipped with a 13.3-inch HD wide LCD panel whose pixel count is 1,366 x 768. Its low weight (1.12kg) was realized by reducing the sizes of printed circuit boards (PCBs), changing the locations of antennas and utilizing various forming techniques.
For its body, Toshiba used a magnesium alloy, which has a light weight and high strength. Also, the company applied a special magnesium stamping technique to its top plate for realizing both a high strength and excellent texture in the aim of showing high-grade fineness.
The dynabook KIRA series has a 4k-compatible HDMI output port and can output high-resolution images and movies to a 4k TV. Toshiba adjusted the colors of liquid crystals for each panel in accordance with of its individual difference so that it can display natural colors. This time, the company will release two models of the notebook PC equipped with a WQHD (2,560 x 1,440-pixel) LCD panel; one supports touch operation, and the other does not.
The dynabook R734 is the first notebook PC that is equipped with a 13.3-inch LCD panel and "the fourth-generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor," a high-performance quad-core CPU. Also, it incorporates a 1-Tbyte hybrid drive capable of writing and reading data at high speeds and Blu-ray Disc drive to realize both a small size and high functionality.
The dynabook N514, which is equipped with an 11.6-inch touch-sensitive LCD panel, comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office and supports the "Draft IEEE802.11ac" next-generation high-speed wireless LAN standard even though it is a low-priced model.
