Nichicon Corp announced that it has developed an EV charger capable of supplying electricity from an electric vehicle (EV) to an electric apparatus in case of emergency.

The company will release the charger, "EV Power Station Socket Model," in early October 2013. The charger is equipped with watertight power sockets and can supply power from the battery of an EV to an electric apparatus. As a result, it becomes possible to use an EV as an emergency power source.

The new charger can be used for the business continuity plans (BCPs) of businesses and municipalities. It is the world's first EV charger equipped with power sockets, Nichicon said.

The output voltage, frequency and output power of the charger are AC100V, 50/60Hz and less than 6kW, respectively. Its size and mass are 650 (W) x 780 (H) x 350mm (D) and 70kg (excluding the cable). It has a "double-speed charging" function, which charges an EV battery to 80% capacity twice as fast. Its price is ¥480,000 (approx US$4,811, excluding tax).
