NTN Registers Ultra-small EV Using In-wheel Motors as Light Car in Japan

NTN Corp registered its two-seat ultra-small electric vehicle (EV) equipped with an in-wheel motor system as a light car in Japan.

The EV is the first vehicle that has an in-wheel motor system and has been registered in Japan. NTN showed it at Mt. Fuji EV Festa, which took place Aug 1, 2013, and will start to test it on public roads.

NTN registered the ultra-small EV as a light car after testing it on the Shin-Tomei Expressway in April 2012 and continuing the test and development of the vehicle.

The dimensions of the EV are 2,780 (L) x 1,400 (W) x 1,500 (H). And the size of its tire is 155/55R14. It is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Its maximum output and maximum output torque are 5kW x 2 and 300N·m x 2, respectively. Its battery is a lithium-ion (Li-ion) rechargeable battery with a capacity of 4.1kWh (103.6V).
