Toy Helicopter Comes With Spherical Frame for Durability, Safety
Kyosho Corp developed a toy helicopter with a high durability and will release it Oct 13, 2012.
The toy, "Space Ball," has blades that rotate inside a spherical resin frame to generate a buoyant force. Even when the toy hits a wall while flying or lands with a strong impact, the spherical frame absorbs the impact to prevent its driving parts from being broken.
The Space Ball is controlled with infrared light and designed to be played indoors. It contains a control circuit including a gyro sensor, coaxial main rotor and propulsion rotor. The rotating rotor is not exposed, increasing safety. If the toy rolls on the ground, it always comes back to the right position so that it gets ready to take off again.
The diameter of the frame is about 200mm. The controller of the Space Ball can also be used as a battery charger. The controller is powered by six AA alkaline batteries. The Space Ball is priced at ¥6,279 (approx US$80, including tax).
