[CEATEC] Pioneer Demos AR-based Automotive Head-up Display
Pioneer Corp developed a head-up display (HUD) for automobiles and exhibited it at CEATEC Japan 2011.
The HUD realizes an augmented reality (AR)-based navigation that displays arrows and other information on a view from the driver's seat. The company plans to start volume production in 2012.
The projector module of the HUD is attached to the position of the sun visor on the side of the driver's seat. And a 19-inch image is projected about 1.5m away from the driver. The pixel count and brightness of the image are 720 x 280 and 10,000cd/m2, respectively.
An image is displayed by using MEMS mirrors to control red, green and blue laser light sources. The laser light source module measures 12.8 x 13.4 x 4mm and has an output of 10lm.
