Seiko Epson Corp developed a reflective high-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD panel and started its commercial production.

The LCD panel, which is targeted at the display elements of projectors, has a screen size of 0.74 inches and a pixel count of 1,920 x 1,080 (full HD). Seiko Epson has been mass-producing transmissive high-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD panels and has already shipped 60 million units. This time, the company started the volume production of a reflective high-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD panel for the first time in the world, it said.

The panel was developed by replacing the transparent electrodes of a high-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD panel with reflecting electrodes. Seiko Epson controlled scattering of light by improving the "C2Fine" technology, which uses inorganic alignment layers and the VA (vertically aligned) method, for reflective LCD panels and planarizing the reflecting electrode layer with its own technology. As a result, it realized a contrast ratio of 100,000:1 or higher.
