[Vaio X Teardown (1)] Ultraslim Laptop Comes With Slim, Light Package

The package of the Vaio X, Sony Corp's 13.9mm-thick notebook PC released in Japan Oct 22, 2009, is based on simple black color. Compared with the packages of other notebook PCs, it is slimmer and lighter probably because it does not contain bulky manuals. As far as we know, the only package that has an equivalent slimness is that of Apple Inc's "MacBook."

Though the package of the Vaio X does not look like a mere cardboard box, it looks low cost with only the black color printed on it. The package is not as colorific as that of the MacBook. And stickers occupy all the areas that are not black.

A sticker on one side of the package indicates that the antivirus software "McAfee" is installed on the PC. And a sticker on the bottom side means that the PC is equipped with SanDisk Corp's solid state drive.

Inside the package, there are two inner boxes that seem to be one box due to their design. The large box contains manuals, and the small box houses an AC adapter.

Under the large box lies the main body of the Vaio X wrapped in a non-woven cloth. The cloth is not cushioned, so it is probably used to prevent scratches. A sheet to cover the LCD display is bound by the notebook PC.
