Eizo Nanao Corp developed an optical mouse that can also be used as a remote control for users who watch TV and browse Websites on a PC at the same time.
Mouse function and remote controller function are allotted to each side of the mouse, "Eizo-C@T-one." With a built-in tilt sensor, the mouse automatically turns off its mouse function to prevent improper operation when reversed to its remote controller side.
It was released Sept 12, 2008. There is no suggested retail price, but it is sold on the company's "Eizo Direct" direct marketing Website at a price of ¥12,600 (approx US$121).
Communication between the mouse and a PC uses radio in the company's proprietary specification 2.4GHz band. Transmission range extends to about 10m. The mouse can be used just by connecting the receiver included in the package to a USB port on a PC. It supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later versions.
The remote control function uses infrared. Nine buttons including power on, off, channel and volume control are equipped on the mouse. It can be used to operate a TV, a recorder and a tuner, for example, by setting the remote control code for each device.
