Toyota Motor Corp will lease its "FCHV-adv" fuel cell vehicle to Japan's Ministry of the Environment for 30 months from Sept 1, 2008, at a monthly charge of ¥840,000 (approx US$7,766), including consumption tax.
The ministry also uses the existing model, "FCHV," on lease.
Toyota plans to offer the new model for lease, targeting government-affiliated organizations, local governments and energy-related companies. It intends to use the data gained from the users under various conditions for the durability improvement and cost reduction of fuel cell stacks.
The FCHV-adv (Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle-advanced) acquired a vehicle-type certification from Japan's Ministry of Land on June 3, 2008 (See related article).
It is mounted with a 156L hydrogen tank with a 70MPa filling pressure. The cruising distance and the low-temperature starting performance have been improved by modifying the fuel cell stack. The cruising distance at 10·15 mode increased from 330km of the existing vehicles to 830km, and it can be started and driven at -30°C.
