SoftBank Mobile Lowers Minimum Charge for 'iPhone 3G'

SoftBank Mobile Corp announced that it revised data communication charges for Apple Inc's "iPhone 3G."

The company revised the price of the "Packet Flat-rate Full" service for data communications so that it will vary in two stages in accordance with the number of packets used. Also, it lowered the minimum fee to use an iPhone 3G handset to ¥2,990 (approx US$27.58) per month.

The monthly charge of Packet Flat-rate Full has been fixed at ¥5,985. From August 2008, the price varies between ¥1,695 and 5,985 in accordance with the amount of packets used. It costs ¥1,695 for up to 20,175 packets, with ¥0.084 per packet added when the number of packets exceeds that. The fee is ¥5,985 when the number of packets surpasses 71,250.

In the wake of this revision, the monthly fee to use an iPhone 3G will start from ¥2,990, including the basic charge of ¥980 for "White Plan (i)" based on the company's "White Plan," ¥315 for "S! Basic Pack (i)" and a minimum charge of ¥1,695 for Packet Flat-rate Full.

SoftBank Mobile also announced it now stores e-mails received through its "E Mail (i)" service for the iPhone 3G indefinitely. Storage of up to 200-Mbyte or 5,000 e-mails will become available for an unlimited period of time from now on.
