The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has certified CESI Technology Co Ltd of China as the first official Blu-ray Disc verification center in China.
As a result, Chinese manufacturers of Blu-ray Disc players, etc can apply for the company's verification service inside China. This is expected to reduce the time to develop Blu-ray Disc products.
CESI Technology is a subsidiary of the CESI (China Electronics Standardization Institute), an official organization in charge of the electronic technology standardization in China. The company verifies and assesses the compatibility of electronic devices.
Commenting on the establishment of the verification center, CESI Technology's President Xinhua Zhao said, "Blu-ray Disc, the successor to DVD, will bring about new business opportunities for the Chinese electronics industry. I'm positive that Chinese companies will play a key role toward the rapid penetration of the Blu-ray Disc format around the world."
The BDA announced that "DigiRise DRA" (DRA), China's proprietary audio encoding specification, has passed the BDA's technical assessment at the same time.
"We have already entered the final phase to include DRA in the Blu-ray Disc format," said Sumitaka Matsumura, chair of BDA China Task Force.
DRA could be incorporated in Blu-ray Disc's next version from now on.
The technical assessment of DRA was conducted with the cooperation of China Hualu Group, a leading AV equipment manufacturer of China, and DigiRise Technology Ltd, which develops audio encoding technologies. Hualu, a member company of the BDA, had proposed technical assessments of DRA and "AVS," China's proprietary video encoding specification, to the BDA.
