Amazon Japan KK, which runs the "Amazon.co.jp" Internet bookstore in Japan, has announced its Blu-ray Disc (BD) title sales (including pre-orders) rankings for the first half of 2008 (Dec 1, 2007, to May 31, 2008).

Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan) Inc's "Resident Evil - Trilogy Box" topped in the 1H, according to the announcement. This title was released in the BD and DVD formats at the same time, but BD sales significantly outperformed DVD sales, Amazon said.

"Many software manufactures consider that 'action' is the genre that can make the most of BD," Amazon said. "The BD share is expected to grow among new titles especially in this genre from now on."

Following the top title were "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," "5 Centimeters Per Second," "I Am Legend," ".hack//G.U. Trilogy," "Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack," "The Place Promised in Our Early Days," "The Phantom of The Opera," "Ratatouille," and "Mobile Suit Gundam F91."

Anime titles accounted for six of the most selling ten titles. Amazon analyzed that, "BD's high definition has greatly improved the reproducibility of details and is enchanting anime fans who put weight on image quality."
