Aiphone Co Ltd, which handles interphones and other products, announced March 24, 2008, that it reached a friendly agreement with Apple Inc after negotiating issues concerning the similarity between the brand name owned by Aiphone and Apple's mobile phone "iPhone."

Aiphone owns rights of trademarks for "Aiphone" in both Japanese and English in Japan and for "Aiphone" outside Japan. In accordance with the agreement, Aiphone will permit Apple to use the brand name in Japan, while both companies' trademarks will coexist in the other regions. The other details of the agreement have not been revealed.

Aiphone and Apple have been negotiating this matter since about summer 2007.
