Gemstar-TV Licenses Nintendo EPG for Wii

Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc of the US, which offers electronic program guide, disclosed March 10, 2008, that it signed a license agreement with Nintendo Co Ltd.

The "G-GUIDE Interactive Program Guide," an electronic program guide service provided by Gemstar-TV Guide, will be available on Nintendo's "Wii" game console. The multi-year agreement is specific to the Japanese market. Additional terms of agreement were not disclosed.

Gemstar Multimedia Limited, which is a subsidiary of Gemstar-TV Guide and engaged in licensing of patents and intellectual properties for the company, said, "Our G-GUIDE technology is already well established in digital recorders, televisions and mobile phones in Japan. This agreement with Nintendo allows us to extend the reach of G-GUIDE to gaming consoles."

In March, Interactive Program Guide Inc, a joint venture established by Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc, Dentsu Inc and Tokyo News Service Ltd, announced that it will start offering an electronic program guide service intended for Wii. The G-GUIDE technology is provided by Interactive Program Guide Inc in Japan.
