LG.Philips LCD Co Ltd of Korea exhibited a new A4-size flexible color electronic paper at 2008 International CES. The resolution of the new E-paper almost quadrupled from the VGA class (640 x 400) to WXGA (1280 x 800).

The E-paper employs the electrophoretic display method like its predecessors. The panel, measuring about 0.3mm in thickness and weighing 74±4g, is bendable. The TFT substrate and the color filter are formed on thin stainless steel and plastic substrates, respectively.

The panel can display images in up to 16,700,000 colors (256 gradations) with a definition of 108ppi. The panel features a reflectivity of 24%, a contrast ratio of 8:1 or higher and a view angle of 70 degrees, the company said.

The company plans to start the volume production of B5-size flexible black-and-white E-paper in August 2008. At this year's CES, the company exhibited two types of displays with resolutions of WXGA (1280 x 900) and UXGA (1600 x 1200).
