"The TV that all other TVs envy" – Nowadays, we see the ads with this copy here and there in Japan. They are promoting Hitachi Ltd's "Wooo UT" series LCD TVs. As you may know, they are ultrathin LCD TVs.

The display parts of these TVs are as thin as 35mm. The 32-inch 1366 × 768-pixel model will be released in December 2007, the 37-inch 1920 × 1080-pixel model early in February 2008 and the 42-inch 1920 × 1080-pixel model early in April 2008.

To tell the truth, these LCD TVs are mounted with several technologies that attract the attention of engineers, including an ultrathin power circuit board, backlight and heat radiator. And many engineers asked us to let them attend the disassembly.

Therefore, we obtained a newly-released 32-inch model, of course, to break it down and to see if it is really worth envying as the copy says. We will report the disassembly work on Tech-On! and more detailed information on the Nikkei Electronics magazine.

We started to break it down. ...
