[CEATEC Preview] JVC to Release 3.7cm Thick 42-inch LCD TV
Victor Company of Japan Ltd. (JVC) has developed a 3.7 cm thick 42-inch LCD TV. This is 9.2 cm slimmer than the 12.9-cm thickness (thinnest part) of the company's existing same screen size model. JVC will market this TV first in Europe in the spring of 2008 and later in Japan and the United States in series. The development will be presented at "CEATEC Japan 2007," which opens Oct. 2, 2007.
JVC produces TVs using LCD panels purchased externally. The company has combined its proprietary image processing circuits and chassis components with purchased standard specification panels thus far.
This time, however, "We took the initiative and ordered panels suited to our requirements," JVC said. "This was a completely different method from previous ones."
Sharp Corp. and Hitachi Ltd. are also expected to showcase their ultra-slim TVs, while Sony Corp. is anticipated to display its OLED TVs at CEATEC Japan 2007. The development of ultra-slim TVs is becoming more competitive.
