Collaboration, Innovation and Development

- Grasping the Trend and Building the Future

Greeting

Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome to Display Innovation CHINA 2017/Beijing Summit!

Since 2015, the growth generated by Mobile Internet has been slowing down. The growth rate of display industry decreased from double digits to single digits. Typical a-Si TFT LCD area is seeing a negative growth and the overcapacity issue is looming ahead. Our industry is faced with a new fork in the road where we must contemplate how to go further.

Actually, we have no other choice but keep innovating consistently: Technology innovation promotes application innovation whereas application innovation activates technology innovation. The 4th Industrial Revolution is approaching while artificial intelligence, IoT and Big Data are activating further growth. In IoT era, all things are connected intelligently which provides display industry with new opportunities. In order to realize the opportunities, it is important for the global display industry to cooperate more extensively in terms of technology and application, together creating a new value creation IoT ecology as “Ecoresystem: Open and Connected” .

We should provide new supplies at higher level for the market and create new demands at higher level by means of consistent innovation and close cooperation.

Let’s take “8K+5G”, which I have been advocating for these two years, as an example. Our display industry should actively work together with the partners from other fields such as communication, content and application to promote 8K, popularize 4K, replace 2K and leverage 5G, which I summarize as “8425 Action Plan”. As long as the Plan is effectively implemented, we will have the opportunities to make contributions to future market growth and mitigate the negative influence of overcapacity. We should collaborate with the partners from related industries. The close and coordinated collaboration among government, industries, colleges and research institutions and users are also needed. I would like to take this opportunity to call on all of us joining hands to implement “8425 Plan”.

The theme of DIC summit this year is “Seize the Trends to Achieve Future Success”. The trends include both challenges and opportunities. The key to future success is innovation and cooperation! Hopefully, elites from the industry and friends from various trades present today could share your opinions freely, communicate profoundly and collaborate closely to promote the development of display industry.

Wish “Display Innovation CHINA 2017/Beijing Summit” a great success! And wish you all the best!

A new era has come for displays and here we see a great business chance in them. Words such as “IoT, “AI” or “5G” are the hot keywords that will take us to new era.

IoT expands the use of displays. Displays were used only to watch TV before. Now, for example, by combining the camera and cloud’s moving image platform, they can be utilized for new services of moving image, thus changing our lifestyle with home security and remote medicine services. In addition to this, AI enables to add “thinking” function to display, leading to advanced services with moving image, enabling us to identify what we could not see before on the moving images.

5G will give great impact on automobile display for example. With rapid networks of 10Gbps, the display will show the video shot from camera in real-time with no delay, thus enabling to utilize these images to support the safe-driving and for auto-driving of vehicles responsible of human life. In addition, rapid networks like 5G coming into wide use will be a push to use the 360-degree video that has massive moving image data as well.

With such change in moving images and infrastructure, display technology is likely to change drastically. There are high hopes for new technologies such as VR/AR, invisible display, flexible display or aerial display.

Nikkei Business Publications will hold the “Display Innovation CHINA 2017 / Beijing Summit” in collaboration with the China Optics and Optoelectronics Manufactures Association LCB. This year’s theme is “collaboration, innovation and development - grasping the trend and building the future”.

To achieve success in this new era, it is essential to aggressively collaborate externally outside the company, make innovation happen, and keep developing together. We hope that discussions at this year's summit will contribute to your collaboration, innovation and development.
