Why Ambient and Green?

New applications are being created at a furious pace, and displays are becoming more common everywhere: the home, the office and throughout the city. The day is coming when the objects around us – walls, windows and desktops, for example – can display information on demand, becoming part of the environment we live and work in as “ambient” displays.

And as displays become more common, increasing attention must be paid to environmental issues: “green.” A variety of measures are needed, including reduced power consumption, elimination of hazardous substances from materials, reduced manufacturing energy consumption, and reduced CO2 emissions through improved transport efficiency. As a diverse selection of environment-friendly displays of all sizes and types develops, fueling an increase in information display and two-way communication, our lifestyles will change accordingly.
