NTT Facilities Inc announced Aug 7, 2014, that it will build a mega (large-scale) solar power plant in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan.

The total capacity of the solar panels to be installed at the plant is 2,514kW. The maximum voltage of each string, which connects panels in series, is as high as 1,000V. As a result, the number of strings can be reduced by up to 40%, compared with 600V strings.

The high voltage also reduces direct-current wiring loss and improves the conversion efficiency of PV inverter, increasing the efficiency of the entire system from about 70% up to 90%.
