Toshiba Claims Highest Efficiency for Organic Thin-film PV Module

Toshiba Corp announced July 31, 2014, that it has achieved a conversion efficiency of 9.9% with an organic thin-film photovoltaic (OPV) module measuring 5 x 5cm.

The conversion efficiency is one of the highest in the world for a module of that size. The conversion efficiency of the 1 x 1cm cell is 11.2%.

In September 2012, Toshiba achieved a conversion efficiency of 7.7% with an OPV module measuring 5 x 5cm and a cell conversion efficiency of 9.2%. This time, the company made improvements to its own p-type organic semiconductor material that supports long-wavelength light and employed a structure called "reversed structure."
