Bandai Namco Games Inc developed an arcade game machine that uses a large semispherical screen and can be played by two players.
The company will launch the machine, "Lost Land Adventure," in early August 2014 at amusement facilities across Japan.
This is Bandai Namco Games' third arcade game machine equipped with a semispherical screen. This time, the company developed the new machine on the assumption that it is played by two players inside the machine. According to the company, this is the world's first arcade game machine that uses a large semispherical screen and can be played by two players.
Lost Land Adventure is a gun shooting game in which the players explore secluded regions with machine gun-like controllers. A video from a project is enlarged with a fish-eye lens so that it is displayed as if it covers the players from their heads to their toes. As a result, the players can feel, for example, as if they are actually falling when the characters in the game are falling. And they cannot grasp the whole situation without turning their heads.
When I played the game, I enjoyed a feeling of tension when an enemy suddenly attacked me from outside my field of vision.
The machine measures 2,800 (W) x 2,310 (D) x 2,300mm (H). The cost of playing the game will be ¥200 (approx US$1.97) per player.
