Nittetsu Mining Co Ltd, which is known for the mining of ores such as limestone, announced July 10, 2014, that it will build a 1.997MW solar power plant in Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan.

The construction site for the plant is idled land (approx 50,000m2) that Nittetsu Mining owns in the city. The company plans to start power generation at the plant in December 2014.

The amount of capital investment is about ¥700 million (approx US$6.9 million). The plant is expected to generate about 2,200,000kWh of electricity per year at first. Nittetsu Mining employed Sharp Corp's solar panel and Fuji Electric Co Ltd's PV inverter.
