Wooden Mounting System Employed for 1.1MW Solar Plant in Kagawa
Dainihon Wood-preserving Co Ltd announced April 24, 2014, that it will enter the solar power generation business.
The company will build a mega (large-scale) solar power plant with an output capacity of about 1.1MW on about 14,000m2 of idle land on the property of its Shikoku Plant in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan. The total investment will be ¥370 million (approx US$3.6 million). It plans to start power generation in September 2014, expecting to generate about 1,200MWh per year.
For the solar panels of the mega solar plant, Dainihon Wood-preserving employed its own wooden mounting system called "Solawood." Units that are made of timber and precut at a factory are carried to the construction site and assembled. Because the timber is treated with a copper-based germicide, its expected durability is 20 years, the company said.
The wooden mounting system requires a relatively small amount of energy in its manufacturing process and allows to use domestic wood and forest thinnings, reducing environmental load. In addition, it is resistant to salt damage, which causes a problem for metal mounting systems.
