Kyocera Achieves 18.6% Efficiency With Polysilicon Solar Cell
Kyocera Corp announced that it has developed a polycrystalline silicon solar cell (for volume production) with a conversion efficiency of 18.6%, which is higher than the company's previous record of 17.8%.
The company plans to release a high-output solar panel using the new cell in the summer of 2014.
In December 2011, Kyocera achieved an efficiency of 17.8%, or the world record of the time, with a polycrystalline silicon solar cell for volume production. This time, it further increased the efficiency by improving crystal quality and electrode processes and reducing carrier recombination.
