Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA) announced statistics on the shipment of solar cell modules (solar panels) in Japan.

The total capacity of solar cell modules shipped in Japan in 2013 is 7,505,190kW, which is 204.0% higher than in 2012. And 72.0% of the total capacity, or 5,401,071kW, is accounted for by modules manufactured by Japan-based companies.

Of the 5,401,071kW capacity, 3,446,119kW of modules were manufactured in Japan, accounting for 45.9% of the solar cell modules shipped in Japan in 2013. The remaining 1,954,952kW (or 26.0% of the solar cell modules shipped in Japan in 2013) is accounted for by modules that Japan-based companies manufactured outside Japan.

(1) The ratio of the total capacity of solar cell modules that are manufactured by Japan-based companies and shipped in Japan and (2) the ratio of the total capacity of modules that Japan-based companies manufacture outside Japan (to the total capacity of modules that are manufactured by Japan-based companies and shipped in Japan) are not expected to change much in 2014, said Shinichi Suzuki, secretary-general of JPEA.
