Seiko Epson Corp announced that it has developed a 0.38-inch SVGA (800 x 600-pixel) high-temperature polysilicon TFT color LCD panel for electronic viewfinders (EVFs) and started volume production.
The company expects that the LCD panel will be used for the high-quality EVFs of mirror-less single-lens cameras and premium compact digital cameras.
The screen size of SVGA LCD panels for EVFs has been 0.47 inches. This time, Seiko Epson reduced pixel pitch to 9.6μm to reduce the size to 0.38 inches and improve resolution so that a smaller EVF-equipped camera can be realized. The latest LCD panel covers 92% of the sRGB color space and has a surface brightness of 680cd/m2. It can display about 16,770,000 colors.
Seiko Epson plans to exhibit the LCD panel at CP+ 2014, an event related to cameras, pictures and videos, which will take place from Feb 13 to 16, 2014, in Yokohama, Japan.
