Sharp Corp announced Jan 27, 2014, that it has received an order for the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services for a 52MW mega-solar (large-scale solar) power plant from a Thailand-based solar power producer.

The power producer is Serm Sang Palang Ngan Co Ltd (SSP). Sharp will start the construction of the plant in January 2014, planning to start power generation by the end of 2014. SSP is a special purpose company (SPC) whose parent organization is Tang Kim Heng Group (SNNP). It plans, invests in and runs power generation businesses.

This time, Sharp, Italian-Thai Development Public Company Ltd (ITD) and Italthai Engineering Co Ltd (ITE) concluded the EPC contract for the solar power plant. ITD is the largest construction company in Thailand. Including the latest order, the total power generation capacity of the solar power plants that Sharp has received orders for in Thailand is more than 150MW.

As solar panels of the plant, a thin-film type that has excellent temperature properties at high temperatures was employed. About 400,000 panels and peripheral systems will be installed in an area of about 1.3km2.

Sharp Solar Maintenance Asia Co Ltd (SSMA), which was established in March 2011, will provide maintenance and operation management services. And full-time workers who have received special education and training will help run the power generation business.
