Leopalace21 Corp announced in November 2013 that it has published a "solar map," which visualizes the power generation statuses of solar power generation systems, on the website of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.
The solar map was published for the project called "Operation Test of Virtual Solar Power Plants Using ICT (Information and Communications Technology)," in which Leopalace21 collaborates with Fujitsu Ltd.
For the solar map, data accumulated in a cloud system is periodically summarized to show (1) the power generation capacities in the past one hour, (2) the amount of power generated on the previous day, (3) the amount in the previous month and (4) a chart showing the amounts in the past 12 months with locations.
The operation test is conducted for a project selected for the "Reconstruction Project for the Promotion of the Advanced Use of Residential Solar Power Generation," which is carried out by Fukushima Prefecture and Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA). Leopalace Power Corp, Leopalace21's subsidiary that generates electricity, rents the roofs of 67 Leopalace21 apartments from their owners, installs a 10k-35kW solar power generation system on each of the roofs (total power generation capacity: 1.2MW) and sells all the electricity generated with the systems to a power company.
Data on the amount of power generated at each apartment, irradiation and temperature is stored in Fujitsu's data center. The data is analyzed to visualize the amount of generated power and conditions for power generation and used for the promotion of solar power generation systems.
For example, Leopalace21 examines the influences of shade and the orientation and tilt angle of solar panels on the amount of generated power as well as the heat insulating effect of the installation of solar panels.
Leopalace21 also announced that it has decided to issue 43,500,000 new shares and sell 6,500,000 shares of the company to raise capital for the investment in mega-solar (large-scale solar) power generation projects using facilities installed on roofs, etc at a board meeting Nov 25, 2013.
Leopalace21 will shift the focus of its mega-solar business, which installs solar panels on roofs, from installing solar power generation systems on contract to running a solar power generation business by itself.
