Japan Display Inc exhibited LCD panels for head-up displays (HUDs) and a 12-inch automotive LCD panel to be installed on a dashboard at FPD International 2013, which took place from Oct 23 to 25, 2013, in Yokohama, Japan.

Japan Display showed 1.8- and 3.1-inch LCD panels for HUDs. They are transmissive IPS displays using low-temperature polysilicon. Their transmittance and contrast ratio are 6.0% and 1,600:1, respectively.

The pixel size and count and aspect ratio of the 1.8-inch panel are 0.0852 x 0.0852mm, 480 x 240 and 2:1. And those of the 3.1-inch panel are 0.0855 x 0.0855mm, 800 x 480 and 15:9.

For the 12-inch automotive LCD panel, Japan Display realized a thickness of 5mm by reducing the thickness of the backlight unit. The thickness of the company's previous 12-inch automotive LCD panel is 10mm.
