NEC Personal Computers (NECPC) Ltd announced new models of its personal computers.

This time, the company further reduced the thicknesses and weights of the "Lavie Z" series of notebook computers, which feature slimness and lightweight. The mass of a new model that does not have a touch panel is 795g, which is 80g lighter than the previous model released in the summer of 2012 (875g).

"This is the world's lightest notebook computer equipped with a 13.3-inch wide LCD panel," NECPC said.

The thickness of the notebook computer is 14.9mm, which is the same as that of the previous model.

As a material for the bottom plate (case), NECPC employed a magnesium-lithium (MgLi) alloy as in the case of the previous model. In addition, it reduced the thickness of the palm rest plate made of a magnesium alloy from 0.5 to 0.45mm. And the company made improvements to the shape of the notebook computer so that its toughness does not deteriorate due to the slimness.

"We reduced the thicknesses of any other parts that could be slimmed down," the company said.

For the LCD panel of the notebook computer, NECPC employed Sharp Corp's IGZO. The pixel count of the panel is 2,560 x 1,440 (WQHD). It is a non-glare type and can be easily viewed even in bright light or outdoors, NECPC said.

The capacity of the computer's battery is the same as that of the previous model. But because of the use of IGZO and low-power-consumption CPU, it can be continuously used for about 9.2 hours, which is an hour longer than the previous model.

NECPC will release the "LZ750/NSB" (CPU: Core i7-4500U) and "LZ550/NSB" (CPU: Core i5-4200U).
