Taiyo Yuden Develops 330-microfarad 3225-size Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor

Taiyo Yuden Co Ltd developed a 3225-size multilayer ceramic capacitor with a capacitance of 330μF.

The dimensions of the capacitor, "AMK325ABJ337MM," are 3.2 x 2.5 x 2.5mm. Of all multilayer ceramic capacitors of the size, it has the world's highest capacity, the company said.

Taiyo Yuden has already developed several chip-type multilayer ceramic capacitors with a capacitance of 100μF or higher and released them. Its previous 3225-size multilayer ceramic capacitor, "AMK325ABJ227MM," has a capacitance of 220μF. This time, the company increased the capacitance by 50% by improving the accuracies of material and all the other technologies.

The new product is expected to be used as a smoothing capacitor for various devices including industrial machines such as monitoring cameras and broadcasting equipment as well as information-related devices such as personal computers, servers and multifunction printers.

Taiyo Yuden will start to mass-produce the capacitor with a production rate of one million units per month in September 2013 at its Tamamura Plant in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. The price of its sample is ¥150 (approx US$1.5) per unit.

The company will exhibit the new product in its booth at Ceatec Japan 2013, which will take place from Oct 1 to 5, 2013, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
