Sony Corp will release a new action camera that can display a speed, travel time, travel distance and trajectory with its GPS function and special software Oct 11, 2013.

Also, the camera, "HDR-AS30V," comes with an NFC (near field communication) function. The dimensions and mass of the new camera are the same as those of its predecessor. Its expected retail price is about ¥:30,000 (approx US$303).

As an accessory, Sony added a watch-like live-view remote featuring a color monitor and wireless LAN capability. The manufacturer's suggested retail price of the remote, "RM-LVR1," is ¥15,750.

With the remote, it is possible to check the angle of view and start/stop shooting. It has a water resistance of 3m and a low temperature resistance of -10°C so that it can be used for surfing and skiing. Sony will release the "HDR-AS30VR," a set of the remote and the camera, Dec 6, 2013, for an expected retail price of about ¥40,000.

The "SPK-AS2" waterproof case included in the HDR-AS30V and HDR-AS30VR has a 25% smaller volume and a 35% less mass than the case included in the previous product. Moreover, it allows to press the buttons on a side of the camera. But its water resistance decreased from 60m to 5m.
