Sharp Corp built a new manufacturing plant for white goods in Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC), Karawang, Indonesia, and started its operations in September 2013.

The company started the operations by manufacturing washing machines, planning to start production of refrigerators in October 2013.

The site area of the plant is about 310,000m2. Sharp invested about 1.2 trillion rupiah (approx US$105.6 million) in the plant. It is producing 140,000 washing machines per month and will produce 220,000 refrigerators per month.

With the new plant, Sharp can increase the production capacities for its refrigerators and washing machines in Indonesia by about 100% and 150%, respectively.

According to its mid-term management plan announced in May 2013, the expansion of its overseas business especially in ASEAN countries is one of the most important plans for Sharp.
