Sony Corp announced two types of business card-sized security cameras whose mass is about 110g.

They are the "SNC-CX600W" (connected via wireless LAN) and "SNC-CX600" (connected via an Ethernet cable) and measure 95 (H) x 61 (W) x 41 (D).

Both of them are commercial cameras to be installed in shops, restaurants, condominium buildings, etc for security and marketing purposes. The stylish designs of the new products are less intimidating than other security cameras and suited for use in retail stores, office buildings, etc, Sony said.

The new cameras are capable of outputting 1,280 x 720-pixel (16:9) HD video with a frame rate of up to 30fps. Their horizontal angle of view is 120°, and they can take an image of a wide area even with a limited installation space in a shop, condominium building, etc.

Despite the small size, the new cameras are equipped with a human presence sensor, white LED lamp, microphone, speaker and other functions for video monitoring. For example, by automatically lighting the white LED lamp when the sensor detects a person, it becomes possible to take vivid color video of the person even in a low-illuminance environment.

Moreover, an audio file stored in the cameras can be automatically played when the sensor detects a person in the aim of giving a warming with voice or alarm sound.

The SNC-CX600W supports IEEE802.11b/g/n wireless LAN and comes with an AC adapter. It will be released Sept 9, 2013. The manufacturer's suggested retail price of the camera is ¥39,900 (approx US$407, including tax).

The SNC-CX600 supports IEEE802.3af (Power Over Ethernet). It is connected to a network via cable but does not require an AC adapter. It will be released in February 2014 with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of ¥39,900 (including tax).
