Japan Display Inc developed a 12.2-inch LCD panel that enables to switch between 2D and 3D display modes for automotive use.

The pixel counts in the 2D and 3D modes are 1,920 x 720 and 960 x 720, respectively.

By employing a variable parallax barrier to show 3D images, Japan Display enabled to switch between 2D and 3D display modes and to change the viewing direction of 3D images. Also, to optimize the 3D viewing area, the company synchronized the variable parallax barrier with a head-tracking system.

Japan Display will exhibit the new panel at SID 2013, a trade show that will take place from May 21 to 23, 2013, at the Vancouver Convention Center in Canada. The company plans to demonstrate the panel showing 3D images and using a head-tracking system.
