Hyundai Shows Production Model of its FCV
Hyundai Motor Co exhibited the "ix35 Fuel Cell," a production model of its fuel-cell vehicle (FCV), March 28, 2013, at Seoul Motor Show 2013, which opens for the public from March 29 to April 7, 2013.
The ix35 Fuel Cell is the production model of a vehicle that Hyundai showed at Paris Motor Show 2012, which took place in September 2012, and the company's first FCV production model. It received type approval certification for the vehicle in the past year.
Hyundai plans to produce 1,000 units of the vehicle from 2013 to 2015 and lease them to individuals, government organizations, etc mainly in Europe. For the future, it intends to obtain a certificate in the US and South Korea and release the vehicle in those countries.
The dimensions of the ix35 Fuel Cell are 4,410 (L) x 1,820 (W) x 1,655mm (H), and its wheelbase is 2,640mm. The FCV is equipped with a 100kW fuel cell, lithium-ion (Li-ion) rechargeable battery and two hydrogen tanks to power its motor.
The pressure of the hydrogen tanks is 70MPa. When the two tanks are fully loaded with 5.6kg of hydrogen, the drive range of the vehicle is 594km. The Li-ion battery is a Li polymer battery with a capacity of 24kWh. It takes 12.5 seconds to reach a speed of 100km/h (approx 62.1mph) from zero.
Hyundai shipped 17 units of the vehicle to Denmark and Sweden March 7, 2013, planning to increase shipment to Europe.
