Denso Corp announced that it has developed the world's first wireless smartphone charger designed for use in a vehicle.

The charger is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2013 as an option for the "Toyota Avalon Limited," which is sold in North America.

Currently, for charging a smartphone in a vehicle, it is necessary to connect a charger and the smartphone by using a cable, Denso said. With the new charger, a smartphone can be easily charged just by placing it on the charging pad.

The charger can be used for smartphones that are compatible with the "Qi" wireless charging standard. But smartphones that are not compatible with the Qi can be charged by using a Qi-compatible cover.
