Siemens AG showed concepts of home appliances that automatically operate during hours when electricity rate is lowest at IFA 2012.

The concepts were announced as usage examples of the company's "homeConnect," which is a network control function for home appliances. The homeConnect enables to operate a refrigerator, washing machine and other home appliances with a tablet computer or a smartphone. For example, an application software installed in a tablet computer is used to check the fluctuation of electricity rate in 24 hours and operate a washing machine, dish washer, etc during hours when electricity rate is low.

At the IFA, Siemens had a special exhibit named "connectivity" and demonstrations related to the homeConnect. Many visitors showed interest in white goods being operated with a tablet computer and a smartphone.
