Sony Corp will release an 84-inch 3,840 x 2,160-pixel (4k2k) LCD TV in various regions of the world in 2012.

This was announced by Kazuo Hirai, president and CEO of Sony, at a press meeting that the company held Aug 29, 2012, prior to the opening of IFA 2012. In Europe, the price of the TV will be 25,000 euro. The company has not yet disclosed its price for the Japanese market.

The LCD TV is equipped with the "4K X-Reality PRO" image processing engine, which realizes a super-high resolution technology, and can up-convert full-HD (1,920 x 1,080-pixel) video to 4k2k video.

LG Electronics Inc has already released an 84-inch 4k2k TV (press release), meaning that Sony will follow LG Electronics in the release of the new TV.
