[Medica] Sony Highlights Medical OLED Monitor
Sony Corp highlighted its 25-inch medical OLED monitor that was released in November 2011 at Medica 2011, a healthcare-related trade show that runs from Nov 16 to 19, 2011, in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Especially, the company emphasized its excellent contrast characteristics and high response speed, which are the characteristics of OLED panels.
While LCD monitors have been increasingly employed for medical practices, few OLED monitors have been adopted thus far. And other companies seemed to be interested in Sony's exhibit. I found that the staffers from competing medical monitor makers were checking the image quality of the Sony's OLED monitor.
The OLED panel of the monitor has the "Super Top Emission" structure, which was developed by Sony. Its pixel count is 1,920 x 1,080 (full HD).
Sony exhibited mainly printers and recording devices at the past Medica trade shows. This time, however, in addition to them, it highlighted the OLED monitor, a 3D monitor and other display devices.
Furthermore, Sony exhibited a healthcare system using its "FeliCa Plug" wireless interface module for the first time at Medica. The FeliCa Plug is a communication module with a low power consumption (1mA or less in operation and 0.1μA or less on standby). And the number of healthcare apparatuses using the module is gradually increasing.
While the NFC (FeliCa Plug) is expected to be officially adopted for Continua Health Alliance's communication standard, Sony laid stress on displaying the module.
