Toshiba Corp developed a wireless chip supporting the TransferJet near-field wireless transmission technology.

Toshiba plans to start to ship samples of the chip, "TC35420," at the end of January 2012 and begin volume production in the second quarter of 2012 (April to June 2012) at a rate of one million units per month. The company expects that the chip will be employed for notebook PCs, tablet computers, smartphones, digital cameras, etc.

The new product has a high receiver sensitivity. Toshiba realized a sensitivity of -78dBm (Rate65), which is higher than the value of the TransferJet standard (-71dBm), by using the company's original wireless communications technology. Toshiba claims that it is the industry's highest sensitivity for a TransferJet-compatible wireless chip.

Moreover, Toshiba embedded an RF switch and RF circuit for TransferJet in the wireless chip. And the company reduced the size of the chip by using 65nm process technology and reducing the number of peripheral parts and pins. The size of its package is 4.0 x 4.0 x 0.5mm, which is the smallest in the industry, the company said.
