SMK Doubles Micro USB Connector's Distortion Resistance
SMK Corp announced a Micro USB connector whose distortion resistance to twisting force is twice as high as that of the company's existing products.
The connector, "Micro USB Connector (Strong Type)" (product number: CSS5305-6602F), is compatible with the Revision 2.0 USB standard. The company will release the connector in September 2011 with a production capacity of 500,000 units per month.
SMK doubled distortion resistance to twisting force by employing a double-shielded case structure developed by the company. The case has a relief structure between the external and internal parts and a structure for preventing displacement in the vertical and horizontal directions.
SMK used the external shield case to form "feet" used for attaching the connector. And it eliminated cutouts and hope shapes on the internal side, enabling to prevent flux intrusion into the slot for a cable. Also, the company formed an adsorption space for automatic mounting.
The connector measures 2.8 (H) x 7.9 (W) x 6.2mm (H) and can be embedded in a small space. The rated voltage/current of the power supply part and the signal part are DC5V/1.8A and DC5V/1.0A, respectively.
Its contact resistance (initial value) is 30mΩ or lower, dielectric resistance is 1,000MΩ or higher (DC500V, after one minute), withstand voltage is AC500V for one minute (when there is no abnormality such as dielectric breakdown).
The operating temperature range of the connector is -30°C to +80°C. It is possible to put in and take out a cable 10,000 times.
