Eyeful Home Company of Tostem Housing Institute Co Ltd built a house that contributes to absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) more than it emits.

The house, "Super-sustainable Model House Next+ Nagaiki Style," is equipped with green and health-related devices. Tostem Housing plans to commercialize some of the systems used in the house in 2011.

The Next+ Nagaiki Style is the third-generation model of the concept home that Tostem Housing started to build in 2008. The first- and second-generation models are aimed at CO2 neutrality (net zero CO2 emissions). But the goal with the new model is to realize what the company calls "CO2 minus life" or to reduce more CO2 than it emits.

Specifically, the Next+ Nagaiki Style has the following features.

(1) A photovoltaic (PV) system with a rated output of 6.93kW
(2) A water heating system equipped with a heat pump using solar heat
(3) "SAMOS," a sash that has high light and heat shielding performances
(4) LED lighting equipment whose brightness can be adjusted in accordance with lifestyle
(5) OLED lighting equipment on the walls
(6) A timer function for using nighttime power to charge an electric vehicle
(7) "Pellet Heater," a stove that uses wood obtained by thinning forests
(8) "Miracle Healthy Brick," a brick that is highly hygroscopic and helps stabilize humidity
(9) "Luminous porcelain," which can be used as an entrance lamp
(10) "Fractal Sunshade," which is used on the terrace
(11) "Smart Watch" and "ERIA Monitor," which visualize the consumption of electricity

Among the 11 features, (3)-(6) and (9)-(11) were newly introduced.

The data on the use of electricity is automatically sent to the server of Tostem Housing Institute. The company is considering offering a service to analyze the data and advise the residents in the house how they can change their lifestyles to save more energy.
