Hitachi Ltd showcased watch-like life recorders for reference at Hitachi uVALUE Convention 2010, which took place from July 22 to 23, 2010, in Tokyo.

Equipped with a three-axis acceleration sensor, they can continuously measure and record the amounts of activities, etc. The company aims to set their prices at ¥30,000 (approx US$342).

In the past, Hitachi developed similar life recorders. And the one that the company experimentally released in 2008 was priced at ¥500,000.

This time, Hitachi did not use a pulse wave sensor or an LCD panel, with which the former model was equipped, to lower the price. Also, it eliminated a wireless communication function and enabled the new life recorders to be connected to a PC via a USB cable.

The weight of the life recorders is 20g, and its battery life is about two weeks. Waveform data of three months or more can be stored in the recorders. Though they were exhibited for reference, their designs will not be changed any more, Hitachi said.

"We would like to release them in fiscal 2011," it said.
