Toshiba to Unleash 3D TVs in Summer 2010
Toshiba Corp will release the "3D Regza" LCD TVs, which can display 3D images, and Blu-ray disc devices supporting 3D video in the summer of 2010 in the global market.
In the Japanese market, the company plans to increase the ratio of 3D TVs among its TVs larger than 46 inches to 20% at the end of 2010, it said.
"Based on the concept of high-quality 3D images, we will release products that are different from other companies'," Toshiba said.
The company plans to use the "2D-3D conversion" technology, which converts normal images into 3D images, and the "super-resolution" technology for 3D images for its products. It intends to announce the specifications of the products at another occasion.
3D Cell Regza LCD TVs to debut within 2010
Toshiba will make the Cell Regza LCD TVs equipped with the Cell Broadband Engine microprocessor, which it developed with the Sony Group and IBM Corp, support 3D images. At 2010 International CES, which took place in January 2010, Toshiba announced that it will release those LCD TVs in the European market. And it will commercialize them in the Japanese market in the second half of 2010.
"We will add a new network function to make the TVs more convenient and prepare more screen sizes," Toshiba said.
