Netgem of France has been chosen by Australia's Telstra Co Ltd to supply the set-top box device and software for its T-Box service.

T-Box brings for the first time Telstra's content from its BigPond brand along with Australian terrestrial free-to-air high-definition and standard-definition television channels seamlessly together on a home television.

"As a pure play IPTV technology provider, our goal is to help Telecom Operators to develop solutions for connected homes which combine the best of TV and Internet. We're delighted to partner with a leading and innovative Telecom Operator such as Telstra in this exciting T-Box project," said Christophe Aulnette, managing director at Netgem.

Capable of downloading movies from Telstra's BigPond Movies store and viewing Telstra's streaming Internet content, BigPond TV, T-Box customers will also have access to the terrestrial free-to-air digital television channels within their region.

Telstra is initially conducting a customer experience trial of T-Box with a few hundred of its customers in the Australian city of Melbourne before launching the product nationally.
