Samsung Electronics Co Ltd exhibited a 10.1-inch color electronic paper (e-paper) device at FPD International 2009, which takes place from Oct 28 to 30, 2009, at Pacifico Yokohama, Yokohama City, Japan.
Samsung Electronics plans to start volume production of the device within one or two years. Because gate ICs are integrated on the TFT substrate, the device has a slim design with a narrow bezel, the company said.
The color e-paper device was made by combining a glass TFT substrate, E Ink Corp's e-paper and a color filter. Though the color filter uses a plastic substrate, the device is not flexible because of the glass TFT substrate.
The e-paper device, which is 0.7mm thick, has a pixel count of 450 x 600, a contrast ratio of 10:1 and a reflectance of 12%. It is capable of displaying 7% of the NTSC color gamut.
